Stand up for kids and families in health reform!

Today--right now--we're delivering a MomsRising pacifier lapel pin to each and every member of Congress, along with healthcare stories from our members. Why a pacifier on the pin? Well, we're asking every member of Congress to join us in not being pacified until our broken healthcare system is fixed for kids and families!

Tell your Congressional Representatives to look on their desks for their pin today, to pin it on their lapel, and to send us a photo of themselves wearing it so we can post their photo on our website.

As a symbol that you stand with mothers, fathers, and grandparents to make sure health reform benefits kids too, please wear the pacifier pin that is being delivered to your Washington, D.C. office by MomsRising on October 16th and email us a photo of yourself wearing it to julia@momsrising.org so we can celebrate your support for kids on our website.

As one of over a million members of MomsRising, I'm pinning my hopes on you because children need health reform too! Right now the headlines about health reform center on adults, while millions of children remain uncovered or under-insured.  Even though kids don’t vote, moms, dads, and grandparents do.  And what’s more important to parents than their children's health?
 
Why is there a picture of a pacifier on the lapel pin?  Because we won’t be pacified until Congress delivers a health reform plan that meets kids’ needs. That means:

* Dependable preventive care to catch problems early, keep kids in schoolrooms and out of emergency rooms and avoid unnecessary health care costs
    * A guarantee of affordable quality coverage for all kids that goes beyond fix-it care and helps them grow and reach their potential
    * Simplifying enrollment systems, so neither private nor public bureaucracies stand between an eligible child and the care he or she needs

The need is great right now. In a recent survey, one in ten parents reported delaying a child’s health care because of the recession–and that rate doubles for low-income parents.[1]
 
The thousands of MomsRising members in your state are committed to getting involved because America’s kids have a lot at stake in health reform. Our kids might not have high paid lobbyists working on their behalf, but they have us - more than a million moms with strong networks of friends and families who are willing to move mountains for our kids.  Send a strong signal to your constituents and other MomsRising members that you share our commitment by wearing the attached lapel pin. It’s an important symbol that–like me–you won’t be pacified until Congress delivers a health reform plan that is a win for children and families.
