Consumers Want PVC Free School Supplies!

Many children’s school supplies, such as lunchboxes, backpacks and binders, are often made out of PVC—a toxic plastic that is dangerous to our health and the environment. Children are at at especially high risk from exposure to the toxic chemicals in PVC products.

Safer products are available.  Join us in demanding safer PVC-free school supplies for our children.

As one of more than a million MomsRising members, I’m concerned about polyvinyl chloride (PVC or vinyl) plastic and phthalates in school supplies, such as lunch boxes, backpacks and binders. PVC is the most toxic plastic for our health and environment, releasing hazardous chemicals such as vinyl chloride, dioxins and phthalates, during its lifecycle. PVC has no place in products for our children. Safer alternatives are readily available, as evidenced in CHEJ’s Back-to-School Guide to PVC-Free School Supplies. I urge you to develop a concrete plan to phase out the use of PVC in your products and label PVC-free products as such so parents can easily identify PVC-free products.
